NING

NING
Written and illustrated by Cheewan Wisasa

NING is one of the most outstanding picture books in Thailand. The title and illustrations are deep and meaningful. The illustration style is continuous and seems as though readers are watching animation. Despite the stillness of the image of ‘Ning’ (‘ning’ is a Thai word for still), the illustrator makes its surroundings move instead. The illustrator uses cool color to create calmness and uses dark color to create fear. All of these affects occur while ‘Ning’ is still and not showing any fear.

NING is a story of a character facing many frightening events and obstacles, told in a form of a meaningful poetry of few-words.

NING is written for both children and adults of all nationalities and genders. It uses Buddhism philosophy to symbolize life in the midst of confusion and chaos, and teaches readers to live wisely and consciously.
